Simon Howse, General Manager and CEO

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Simon has an established entrepreneurial record since his permanent transition to Canada. As General Manager, Simon leads the construction management of each project. His dedication to teamwork translates solid business experience into a ‘hands-on’ approach, overseeing all aspects of the project and contributing to greater quality and efficiencies. Business acquisitions include the purchase of hotels, hostels, apartment buildings, restaurants, pubs and retail commercial enterprises.

Steve Thomson – Director, Marketing and Business Development

Heading-up our marketing and business development efforts, Steve brings a breadth of experience to the Parastone team through his previous work in market research, public policy development, product development, and management consulting. When not working with the Parastone Team, Steve is active in various economic development and economic diversification projects as a Principal in his own firm, Capasiti Consulting. Steve has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing from the University of Guelph.

Jacqueline Arling – Director, Planning

Leading our planning team, Jacqueline brings her significant experience as an urban planner and community planning consultant to Parastone. Previously, Jacqueline held senior planning roles at the City of Calgary, and as a planning consultant with Dillon Consulting and at her own firm, Arling Consulting.  Jacqueline has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from UBC and a Masters in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary.

Marcus Van Zyl – Director, Project Management

Marcus is a seasoned project manager who loves to mentor and develop team members. Internationally experienced, Marcus has a proven track record in delivering widely diverse projects. These have included infrastructure development, both as the contractor and the client’s representative, the opening of three mines, the design-build lead on a significant P3 and the development and delivery of a training program under the auspices of the United Nations (UNMAS).

Jason Smith, Director and Site Foreman

Jason’s career in the construction industry spans over 20 years with a focus on commericial projects in 1999. In 2004, Jason became the owner and operator of Australian Renovations specializing in all areas of commercial, mechanical design and construction.

Erik Fait – Senior Project Manager

As a senior project manager, Erik brings over 30 years of engineering and project management experience to the Parastone team. Erik has worked extensively in Canada, Europe and Asia on projects ranging from single family home builds to large offshore oil and gas projects. Erik has a Diploma in Building Technology from BCIT.

Edward Porter – Urban Designer

To design our unique communities, Parastone retains the services of Edward Porter, Registered Professional Planner and Senior Urban Designer with Modus in Vancouver, BC. Modus is a new team of experienced colleagues who have joined forces to offer clients a fresh integrated approach to community planning, urban design, and public/stakeholder engagement.

Lynn Loken, CPA, CA – Lead Accountant, Development & Construction

Accounting lead for our construction and development groups, Lynn joined the Parastone Team of Companies in 2015 with a focus on cash forecasts, budgeting and financial reporting. A Chartered Professional Accountant, Lynn articled with Grant Thornton LLP in Victoria, BC after completing her Bachelor of Commerce Degree (General Business) at the University of Victoria. Lynn also has several years of experience working with not-for-profit organizations and government agencies and enjoys using her financial expertise to help organizations achieve their goals.  After receiving her CPA designation in 2007, Lynn joined the Royal BC Museum in 2008 as the Manager of Finance for four years before relocating to Fernie in 2013.

Tammy Schmidt – Lead Accountant, Hospitality & Rental Management Groups

Tammy obtained her undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Central Queensland University, Australia, while working for PwC in Townsville.  She went on to achieve her postgraduate qualification as an Associate Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales while working at PwC in London. Tammy has worked in all fields of accounting but has a specific passion for Financial Management.
