Accountant
May 4, 2021Wage: Accountant: $38.00 to $40.00 per hour dependent on experience
Part time, 25-30 hours per week.
The Accountant plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the operation of the accounting department. He/She conducts analysis and provides feedback on the financial performance; including the preparation of various finance and accounting reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and presents monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and cost accounting reports
- Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepares entries to general ledger accounts, and document business transactions
- Ensure internal controls are in place and monitored with respect to cash handling, inventory and payments
- Accounts payable and receivable are processed monthly (prepared by bookkeeper, reviewed by internal accountant)
- Compliance with monthly government requirements including GST, PST, LST, T4’s T5018’s and applications for funding as it relates to COVID -19 or other business opportunities
- Direct the preparation of all tax records as required by tax authorities in a timely manner
- Reporting to external agencies as required with respect to loans and grants and the Montane annual rent fund
- Preparation of annual financial statements to review engagement standards for all companies with established timelines.
- Review of work performed by accounting staff including bank reconciliations, payroll and budget to actual reports
- Intercompany accounts are reconciled monthly
- Preparation of quarterly consolidated statement
- Project budget to actual reports are prepared and reviewed bi-weekly for all construction and development projects
- Retail operations net profit and gross margins are reviewed monthly and reconciled to POS reporting
- Monthly income statements are prepared accurately including related accruals and distributed to department head within 10 days of month end
- Establishes, maintains, and coordinates the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures add ensure passwords are continually updated and changed
- Monitors and reviews accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness
- Recommends, develops and maintains financial databases, computer software systems and filing systems
- Researches tax-related issues and manages tax compliance including the maintenance of proper tax records
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a CPA designation preferred
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing and taxation
- Strong computer skills, specifically with MS Office and specialized accounting software (experience with QuickBooks Desktop would be considered an asset)
- Experience managing direct reports
- Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations
- Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making abilities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
